“It’s not too... formal, is it?” I asked, looking at myself in the mirror.
“No,” came Jenny’s muffled voice from my closet, “You need to arrive in style.”
“Alright,” I sighed slipping on my silver flats. I repositioned the long silver necklace on my purple dress, and smiled slightly. I had to admit, Jenny was my hero. I didn’t know what I would do without her. I was fine with wearing jean shorts, and a cute tank top, but no, Jenny wanted style. I straightened my hair, and she applied the make-up. I had to hand it too her. She could turn any ordinary girl like me, into a stunning princess like her.
“Tori!” My mother called up the stairs, “Tori, are you ready? Your taxi’s here.”
“Coming,” Jenny and I said in unison. We raced down the stairs, where my mom, dad, my little sister, Sarah, and my suitcases lay.
“Okay sweetie,” My mother said when I got downstairs, “Call us when you get there, and you have the time of your life.”
“Bye Tori!” Sarah said, giving me a hug.
“You’ll be good for mom and dad right?” I said into her hair. I felt her nod, and I faced Jenny.
“You better not have too much fun without me,” She said putting her hands on her hips. I laughed and gave her a hug.
“Of course not!” I said, “That’s impossible.”
“Okay, text me when you get there, and don’t worry. Call me in the morning and ill help with any fashion dilemma.”
I gave a quick hug to my mom and to my dad, and one more to Sarah. My dad grabbed my suitcases and carried them out to the taxi. I was surprised to find a younger woman as my driver, probably in her mid-twenties.
She must have seen the shocked look on my face because she said, “My dad couldn’t drive today, he’s not feeling great. I’m Emily.”
She seemed nice enough, so I gave my family and Jenny a wave, and closed the door. Emily got into the car, and we baked out of my driveway.
“You like music right?” She asked me.
“Yes,” I said, “Why?” I figured she would want to drive in silence, so I was searching in my purse for my touch.
“I can’t drive without it,” She said. I could hear the smile in her voice.
“Sure, I don’t care what we listen to.”
Emily and I had a pretty fun ride. We blasted music with the windows down, and we talked about me attending Trinity Hill Academy. I was nervous, but not too nervous. I knew I was going to have the time of my life. The only thing I was nervous about was meeting the kind of people who think they run the place. But I was ready. And when Emily pulled into the Trinity Hill driveway, I held my head high, and walked through the doors with confidence. No one was going to stand in my way.
